How to wear the strap
- Moisten the electrode areas on the inside of the strap just before putting it on.
- Placement: the strap should sit just below the chest muscles, with the sensor in the middle at the front.
- Tighten the strap so it does not slip when you move.
- Noisy trace: movement and muscle tension make the trace noisy. If it is noisy even when you sit still, check placement, moisture and tightness. If that does not help, turn the strap so the sensor moves a few centimetres towards your right side.
Frequently asked questions
The app cannot find the strap. Moisten the electrodes, check that the strap sits well and that Bluetooth is on. Close other apps or watches connected to the strap, and try again. Also check that ECG Catch has access to Bluetooth (Settings › Apps › ECG Catch).
Does the app have to be open? No, but it must be running. The app receives ECG in the background and when the screen is locked. If you swipe the app away, it stops. If the app loses contact with the strap for more than 20 seconds while in the background, you get a notification.
How far away can the phone be? The range is about 10 metres. Keep the phone on you or nearby.
What is saved when I press? The 2 minutes before and the 2 minutes after, 4 minutes in total. If you press late, what you felt is often already included in the 2 minutes before.
Starting a recording without opening the app. Use the Mark button on the Lock Screen (tap twice to confirm), the button in Control Center, the Action button or Siri: “Mark ECG in ECG Catch”. You find a guide in the app under Settings › Start recording with the side button.
Turning off the Lock Screen display. Go to Settings in the app and turn off “Show on Lock Screen”.
Sharing a recording. Open the recording in Archive and tap the share button. The recording is shared as a PDF on standard ECG paper, which can be sent by email, in a message or printed.
Deleting a recording. Touch and hold the recording in Archive and choose Delete.
New iPhone. Recordings are included in the iPhone backup (iCloud or Mac) and move with you to a new phone. If you delete the app, the recordings are deleted.
ECG from Apple Watch. Take an ECG with the ECG app on the watch. It appears under Archive › Apple Watch once ECG Catch has been allowed to read ECG from Health.
ECG Catch is not a medical device, and we cannot answer questions about your health or your ECG. Do not send us ECGs. ECGs sent to us are deleted without being assessed. Contact a doctor if you have symptoms from your heart.
